57 horses from six nations started in the crowning White Turf 2018 finale
It will once again be very exciting in the finale of White Turf 2018 this coming Sunday, with an early start to the first race at 11.10 a.m. on the approximately 60cm thick ice sheet covering the lake of St. Moritz. 13 first class horses will compete against each other in the LONGINES 79th Grand Prix of St. Moritz, with snow specialists battling with newcomers to measure their strength on the icy track.
Among the trotters, Spike, so far unbeaten on snow, is considered the absolute favourite for the Grand Prix BMW. In the Credit Suisse Skikjöring Trophy, there is a Hitchcock thriller between Valeria Holinger and Franco Moro about to reach its culmination. “For the seven races we are expecting 57 horses from six countries on the final day of our meeting, which clearly underscores the internationality of the horseraces in St. Moritz. Things could hardly be more captivating for the starting line ups in all three disciplines”, said Thomas C. Walther, President of White Turf.
Five-year old Nimrod (Maxim Pecheur) from the stable of Miroslav Weiss takes the LONGINES 79th Grand Prix of St. Moritz in front of 11,000 spectators.
Spike secures his fifth victory on snow at the Grand Prix BMW. Pinot wins the Grand Prix CREDIT SUISSE, whilst the Credit Suisse Skikjöring Trophy went to Valeria Holinger who is crowned Queen of the Engadine for the second time.
“For us it is important that the safety measures taken last summer were effective, although we have been able to employ them only now, in winter. They give us an insight into the track at any given time”, was the satisfying outcome of White Turf 2018 for Thomas C. Walther, President of White Turf. In the seven races, total stakes reached 99,475 Swiss francs.
