Competition for World Cup qualifying points heats up at The Royal West from October 24–29, 2017 at Calgary’s Stampede Park. The $130,000 CSI3*–W Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Calgary is the sixth of 14 North American qualifiers for the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final.
Still a relatively new addition to the sport, the Royal West Jumping Tournament is now in its 4th year, and it continues to gain prominence in the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping North American League calendar. The newly built Agrium Western Event Centre in downtown Calgary offers a rare, indoor competition venue for riders who seek out environments that mimic the atmosphere of the high octane World Cup Final.
Last year was the first year that The Royal West hosted the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Calgary qualifier. “I think Longines came on board especially because this is an indoor,” said The Royal West organizer John Anderson before last year’s event, in which he placed fifth on his longtime mount Terrific. “The World Cup finals every year annually are indoors. … It was just great that [the FEI] had the confidence in our team to run this event and sport and here’s Royal West.” Anderson is scheduled to ride in the FEI classes this year on Terrific and Granit S, who finished second in last year’s qualifier with Yann Candele.
